The salvage team from SMIT Salvage BV reports today that the preparations for parbuckling the ‘Rocknes’ in Agotnes are in their final phase. If everything continues to go as planned, the vessel should be ready to be pulled upright within days.

Salvors have been preparing the vessel for this difficult operation for weeks, and work continues on a daily basis. Cables have been attached to the vessel that will be pulled by winches on barges. Onshore rock anchors will secure these barges, which lay on the vessel’s portside. Rock anchors will also secure the starboard side of the vessel. Holes up to 12 meters deep have been drilled for these anchors in the past weeks.

SMIT’s team has also prepared the portside ballast tanks to hold pressurised air and the starboard tanks to be ballasted. This will facilitate the rotating movement of the vessel.
