SMIT Salvage prepares to stabilise capsized ‘Rocknes’ in Norway. Rotterdam, 20 January 2004 After being called in for assistance yesterday, SMIT Salvage is currently making initial preparations to stabilise the ‘Rocknes’ in Norway. Once stabilised in its present upside down state, the vessel can be towed to a sheltered area, where further salvage of the vessel will commence. Dynamic Positioned Flexible Fallpipe vessel ‘Rocknes’ capsized off the Norwegian coast yesterday evening. Twelve crewmembers were rescued, sixteen people are still missing. The owners of the ‘Rocknes’ awarded a LOF 2000 Scopic contract to SMIT Salvage who will co-operate with their Norwegian partners to render their services to the capsized vessel.
