WELCOME TO ROCKNESSALVAGE.COM

On the 19 th of January 2004 the Antigua & Barbuda flagged cargo vessel MV ‘Rocknes’ capsized in a strait south of Bergen, Norway. At the time, the ship was loaded with stones and pebbles that were to be delivered in Emden, Germany. In this tragic accident, 18 people lost their lives.

After the vessel capsized, it was pushed closer to shore in order to minimise the risk of sinking.

Later, it was towed to the CCB yard nearby the place of the accident. Here, the ‘Rocknes’ was uprighted (parbuckled) in a remarkable and unique operation. This website contains information about the development, background and day-to-day progress of the operation, which was finished on 4 April 2004.

Since the salvage operation has been finished, this website will no longer be updated.
